Hi All – I am getting that queasy sinking feeling that disability rights progress gains are going to go in the opposite direction – and soon. First, Trump’s choice for the DOJ Civil Rights Division, Harmeet Dhillon, would not be characterized as a friend of disabled people attempting to protect their civil rights, especially under the ADA. She is an ardent supporter of Trump and currently serves as the President of California’s GOP. Her record regarding civil rights has been to defend those accused of violating others’ civil rights. What I heard yesterday during Trump’s Inaugural Address is marginalized people in our communities will be further marginalized. Those who are the Power Elite of our country will gain even further power, while those of us on the margins will learn to be quiet. The next four years will be a challenge.
